History
The house, built in the carpenter gothic style (as evidenced by the scrollwork on the front eaves), was constructed on land owned by John A.C. Stacy around 1860. It has retained many of its architectural details, as well as much of its interior floor plan. The most significant changes occurred in the 1980s during its conversion from a single family home to a B&B.
James Preston (born 1720 died 1807), was the forefather of a previous owner. He was a Captain in the British Royal Navy in the eighteenth century. Although he never lived in the house, his biography places him in the region during the French and Indian War. The rooms in the house are named for the ships he sailed on; H.M.S. Folkstone and H.M.S. Colcester.
