Introduction
If you enjoy the warm history of yesteryear, or are a history or architecture buff, you'll appreciate the authenticity of the fully restored Federal period Captain Swift Inn. Enjoy our home as you relax and step back to a time when hosting guests was important.
Captain Frank Swift established Maine's first passenger schooner fleet while living in this white clapboard village landmark inn. Originally built for lumber merchant Simon Hunt during the presidency of James Madison, our house retains its wonderful wide pine floors, chair rails, exposed beams, intricate moldings, and five fireplaces, one with a beehive oven.
Captain Swift Inn features six guest rooms with private in-room baths and
queen beds. Hunt and Swift Rooms have gas log fireplaces, and Swift and Hannah's Room also have a twin bed and can accommodate up to three people. Bay Breeze offers a claw foot tub with shower. There are also two luxurious suites which have two levels, on the first level there is a king size bed, large bath with two person whirlpool tub, fireplace and large television. The second level loft features additional sleeping with a couch which becomes a queen bed and an oversize chair that becomes a twin be, another television, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. All Rooms are air conditioned. Wireless internet is available for your laptop.
Guests will be served a full, hearty breakfast in the dining room each morning between 8:00 and 9:30. The menu changes daily but always features inn specialties such as stuffed French toast, Belgian waffles with fresh berries, Brie and Sausage casserole, crepes Chantilly and creme brulee French toast.
Your innkeepers, Norm, Linda, and Alex, have traveled all over New England and have fallen in love with Camden. They know you will too. They welcome you into their home and look forward to having you stay with them. Captain Swift Inn is open year round. Summers are ideal here on the coast, and in the autumn the foliage is stunning. In the winter, a restorative peacefulness settles over the village, and in the spring our gardens announce the arrival of the season with the blossoming of flowers.
Camden, “the village where the mountains meet the sea,” is a beautiful seaside community of white, steepled churches, stately homes, excellent restaurants, and unique shops and galleries. It is one of Maine's loveliest coastal villages surrounding a picturesque harbor, one of the most photographed in New England. You are sure to fall in love with this great small town of simple pleasures and unforgettable sunrises. (Click here for area website links)
